Hello fellow rockers! I was in the wild place in 1958-59-60. Co C, 50th ARB (Armored Rifle Battalion)..Spent many a night in wild boonies during alerts..not knowing whether it was real this time. Lived in Bruckenau with a wonderful German family..the Rudloffs. My wife (God Rest Her Soul) was a little girl from the country, never been outside the U.S. My son was three and thought he was a German. It was rough, cold in the winter, scary at times! Why is it that we all love it now?!!! Thank You Vikki!!!!.Like to hear from anyone..especially those of my era..late fifties, early sixties. Auf Weidersehen

We were stationed in WTA in from Oct 1975 to Jun 1977. Served with the 144 ORD Company which operated ASP #3, the ammo issue point for munitions used in training at the ROCK. Lived in Arnsburg Housing which was across the road from main post... over by the Commissary. The Arnsburg Ski area was in our back yard. Jim Akau was our First Sergeant... and I was a young Captain in command of 250 great soldiers. My wife especially recalls the good days of getting together with the 20 or so wives in the unit. Spent lots of great times at the Wasserkuppe, Kreutzburg Brewery, and Range 5. Went back to see WTA in 1982 and 1988 on our second and third tours in Germany... it's never the same so keep all those good memories. Recently retired and living in northern VA. 703-590-1226

We were newly-weds (June 76) and lived in Burgwalbach and Uber-Wildflecken (never on base) and most enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Hope to hear from some others who were in Wildflecken during our tour and hope to get back someday (but probably not for the 5th year renunion). I was assigned to HHC 1/68 Armor (Mortar Platoon) from Feb. 1995 through Jul 1989. I met my wife there and I loved every day being stationed there. Before I got married I would spend all my money down at the Green Goose drinking Asbach and Coke. Then walk up the hill drunk back to the barracks. I miss the schnell imbiss stand across from Beck's Autohaus. I went back this past FEB and you can get on post if you have an ID card, but it was so said because the entire post looks like a ghost town. I also went to the Kreuzberg and had couple of beers for all of the Wildflecken veterans. Those were the best years of my life.

I was assigned to 1/68 Armor from 83-86. I had some great times there. I had a good friend named Rich Colligan who spoke fluent German and taught me alot, so we could go most places that the average soldier couldn't go. I found my time to be very enjoyable in Germany and I would like to someday go back. I remember when I lived in Bad Bruckenau and would go downtown to the pizza pub and the people were so nice and jovial, and when I lived in Bischofsheim they were the same way. I miss the beautiful country. We really had a mission in the Army back then and going to the GDP, or the Fulda Gap was an exciting journey, especially never knowing whether it was a training exercise or the real thing. Either way, I have fond memories of the "Best Kept Secret". When I told people where I was going (Wildflecken), they all laughed and said that I would hate it. Well, the joke was on them. The great snow, the fog, the reasonable ski prices, the monastery, and all of the things that made the 'Chicken' a great place to be. None of us are there now, but all of us share something unique; every letter I read from the guestbook had positive memories of a place never forgotten. I am sure things have changed alot since I was there in the mid eighties, especially with the closing of the base, but my memories will never change. To any locals who may read this letter, thank you for your hospitality, and may God bless you. Victor Whaley

The unity among employees on post and the neighboring communities made my stay very comfortable. Unfortunately, the powers that be decided it was time to close the Installation for a number of reasons. After spending 24 years in Germany, and being in the U.S. for a little less than a year, sometimes I feel like a fish out of water. Wildflecken tyhanks for the memories.

I was stationed in Wildflecken from August of 1982 to September of 1985. I was with the 54th Eng. Bn. I started out in Company D and then was transferred to Company C. Anybody remember the Monistary or Margaret's Gasthof? My family and I had some great times there.

Wie gehts!! I was stationed with D Co. 54th Engineer Battalion from Oct.74 to Nov.77. I went TDY alot and got to see alot of Germany, it was a wonderful place. I also was an ambulance driver with 23rd Med. (the dispensary) and knew the Wurzburg autobahn like the back of my hand. Went to the Oktoberfest in Munich in 77 and drank more than my share of Black beir at the Monestary (Kreuznach). The best meal I ever had was Hasenbraten (roast rabbit) at Range 5 just outside the back gate. Hope to go back someday.

Was assigned to 299th Engineer Batallion in Hoechst, GE. We trained at Wildflecken on many occasions during my two years in Germany. In spite of the conditions (weather & isolation), I have many fond memories of my time there.

I am enjoying your home page. I was stationed in Wildflecken from the fall of 1964 to the summer of 1967. I was in Bravo, 6th Battalion,562nd Art. I remember it being a lot of fun, but it has been a long time. I got to go back to Wildflecken for a day this past fall. There were no more g.i.s on the base and they would not let me on the base. The country side was a pretty as I remembered it. Thanks for the memories. Joe Pigeon
